Continuing our tour is another fav - The Gardener on 4th street in Berkeley. I have a warm spot in my heart for The Gardener. It was the first shop that really inspired my love for great design in home decor. The organic modern aesthetic rings true for me - smooth cement floors, tons of light, high ceilings, plants...
It was also the the store that started my love for forcing paperwhite bulbs at New Years - to bring some freshness and life into a new day. They have a lovely assortment of garden tools and garden books, of course, but the addition of handmade artisanal goods is what they are know for as well. Gorgeous reclaimed wood slab and cement tables, handmade pottery by Lisa Neimeth and Heath Ceramics, Henry Dean's chunky translucent glass vases, handmade jewelry, delicate Marriage Fréres teas, and a wonderful selection of european soaps and candles. I could spend the whole day there amidst the orchids. Well, maybe I would take a break to lunch at Tacubaya with some handmade tamales mid-day...
Oh wow, that store looks amazing. I wish we had something like that where I live!
