the big four ohhhh

Well, folks we are off to Cannon Beach and Gearhart to contemplate my first 40 years of life (or just relax, stay in a cushy hotel, take long beach walks, and snack here). It has been a nutty year for me. It will be exciting to see what the future of the shop will be...I have truly enjoyed it so far!(will everyone please start thinking good thoughts about the economy...pretty please?).

Thanks for all the good things that have happened from this blog - to all of you that I have met (in person or virtually) who give me faith in human kindness. I hope this finds you all well and that you have an amazing and peaceful week. See you Wednesday!

One of our stops in Brooklyn was Red hook. I mentioned our stop at Saipua already - lovely shop with lovely owners. In the same block is a dear little shop called Erie Basin (I blogged about it earlier this year). It is exquisitely curated and full of beautiful vintage estate jewelry, paintings, and curio. It is designed with a bit of an austere Victorian presence as well - a lot of black and neutral tones amongst the oil paintings and pearl encrusted brooches. The last pic is a shop that was closed when we were there but if you are around - you must go - it looks wonderful - called Hand/made.

jumpin' flea

Continuing on our weeks old trip to NY - here was our stop at the Brooklyn Flea. The Flea takes place every sunday in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. We were excited to have a sunny day to roam around and see antiques and artisan crafts alike. You can find some 1960's chairs, lovely art, handmade jewelry, cards and tees, and have homemade ice cream and pickles - all in one stop! Below are the booths of Foxy and Winston handmade cards, John Murphy's photo prints in fab colorful frames (Grace just did a post on him this week), tees and totes by Loyalty and Blood, and all sorts of pickles (including one with cumin) by Rick's Picks.

Ok - here is a little beauty on a grey day that feels like the beginning of fall - yikes!

One of my stops on our NY trip - this gorgeous shop Florisity. The shop used to be in a different location and included apparel and was called Utowa but now they have broken out into their own space with floral design and a few home decor products, pottery, and gift items. It is chock full of gorgeous blooms and them are assembled with eclectic combinations of pods, branches, and succulents. The color combinations are dreamy. They also design these fabulous custom wisteria branch structures - one can be seen hanging from the ceiling. What an inspiration...definitely worth a stop!

More of our trip to NY a few weeks ago..,

these are the shop windows at ABC Home and Carpet. They always do a stunning job with display.

Giant piles of the most delicate handmade pottery, subtle milky Italian glassware, stacks of yummy linens from Matteo, gorgeous jewelry, and hand beaded and printed pillows from all over the world. I love the paintings of these foxglove-like flowers on the wall in pale aqua. It adds a wonderful touch to the vignette of white, taupe, and coral. Another vignette featured quartz and other gemstones and geodes all piled on a vanity. And the bed features dreamy soft linens with ecru, ochre, and golden tones. I could live there...

le labo

OK - back to some pics from our NY trip many weeks ago! I will be catching up this week!

This is a marvelous shop called Le Labo in Nolita. It is a French perfumer with a unique concept - it is a handmade perfumery lab. It almost looks like a paired down and more industrial old apothecary...the brown bottles and simple packaging. They even have a metal briefcase full of tiny vials with each scent for the connoisseur to train their nose! Other than their shops in NY and Grasse, France, they sell exclusively through Barney's in the US, as well as Colette in Paris, and Libery in London. 

I must say I was pretty tempted by the Figue candle - divine!

what fun

We had a fabulous time at the grand opening party for ink & peat on Saturday! I want to thank everyone for coming out and sharing in the fun with us! I also want to thank my family, my boyfriend,  and our designer for being such a great help! There was food and friends and everyone seemed to be having a great time! The precious rock candy party favors were made by Amy of Candywinkel.

This week we are switching over the art show in the shop for the grand opening party. I am so pleased to be showing the work of Portland, Maine artist Jennifer Judd-McGee. I love her use of pattern, color, and natural forms and can't wait to see them in the shop!
