uncommon cacti

Last Friday I had a little treat. I got to visit with Jess Chamberlain - writer for Sunset magazine. Jess also writes for Sunset's blog so make sure and check that out. She was in town to be on AM Northwest to talk about Sunset magazine voting Portland the greenest city in the West. Afterward, we did a little shopping jaunt. We took in a strong latte at Stumptown's annex where people are swirling small sips of coffee around in their mouths and spitting it into spittoons just like with wine tasting. I drank all of mine - man this town has some good coffee. Great modern design in the space too. Then we went on to Noun (a person's place for things) for a little shopping on Belmont. Great vintage finds (including a pink fridge we oggled over) and some modern glassware, jewelry, cards, and ceramics too. Could we help it if Saint Cupcake was right in the back? I think not...let's just say that sprinkles were involved.
Last stop was a newish shop on Burnside - Life + Limb. A simple modern space with cacti and succulents in cute pots as well as some select modern home decor. Here is Jess in front of a great mural in the shop. Love the colors on these painted birch trees with the birdhouses hanging in front and all sorts of cacti down below in every shape and size.

This is the first time I saw this blog. I am getting obsessed about cacti. I have this cactus which has a very straight smooth stem. But on the top of the stem there is a big reg prickly bulb. I named it zitty:)

We just got back from Stumptown on Belmont! They have some seriously good coffee. Thanks for posting about Life & Limb, I saw an ad for it a while ago but then kinda forgot about it, now after seeing these pics I will definitely have to check it out.
